CURTIS STUDIO OF DANCE Backstage Parent Volunteer’s Needed for the Nutcracker
Curtis Studio of Dance relies on the assistance of many dedicated volunteers to provide a high-quality performance experience for your children. Your child is a direct beneficiary of this volunteer effort, so we hope that you will become an enthusiastic member of our volunteer pool.
Parent volunteers are needed backstage to lead each dance group. We need at least two volunteers for each group. This is a girls’ dressing room so volunteers must be female. If you are a parent/guardian please volunteer one of the two shows backstage to help our performance run smoothly.
• Arrive a half-hour before the performance time of your assigned dance group. Act I dancers arrive ½ hour before show begins and Act II dancers arrive ½ hour after show begins.
• Meet the dancers in the dressing room. Introducing yourself to parent/guardian in the class so that they know who the parent volunteer is for their child’s dance group.
• Assist with dressing and putting on shoes and costumes. Assist in keeping costumes free of makeup and mishaps.
• Check hair and make-up before they go on-stage. Make sure each dancer has proper costume, shoes and accessories.
• Maintain a quiet area and enforce quiet behavior in the hallway and backstage as dancers are waiting to perform.
• Assist with line-up as dancers enter the backstage area. Meet dancers after their performance. Keep track of accessories if needed.
• Assist with costume changes and returning all costumes at end of dance to costume rack in good order. Keep area clean and organized.
• Remain with the dancers in your group until all dancers are called upon by their parent/guardian.
